Planning your Garden

Every sucessful garden requires a comprehensive and realistic plan.
Here are a few points to remember, whether a professional or
homeowner, will be planning your garden.

  1. Existing Circumstances-physical features of your property
    such as banks, creeks, etc.
  2. Simplicity-careful attention to this will allow you to have a
more beutiful yard, wit less care.
  3. Climate and weather.
  4. Soil conditions.
  5. Year round interest and color.
  6. Time and Money.
Atlanta's Soil Conditions: Heavy clay structure. Make room in
your yard for a compost pile. The addition of decayed leaves and
pinestraw to your soil will more than compensate for the clay density.
Weather & Climate: Zones 7 and 8. Atlanta's climate is hospitable
to most flora. Very few plants require winter protection. Watering
periodically is necessary during the hot, dry summer months.
